Nancy Maloney

I am a mosaic artist living in Acton, Maine, working primarily in natural stone. My love of rocks began as a child. I collected them, and admired their shape, texture, and color. But most of all, I enjoyed cracking them open and discovering their hidden beauty.

After I was drawn into the mosaic medium, about ten years ago, I used a variety of materials for my art - stained glass, vitreous glass, porcelain, beads, found objects. Ultimately, I found myself connecting back to where I began, working with stone. But now, I had the skills to cut, shape, and place them, to highlight their natural beauty and tell a story.

I am inspired by Maine’s rocky landscape and often incorporate local stone in my work. Each mosaic I create begins with a feeling and ends with a story. I hope you enjoy the story it reveals to you.
