Preening

Inspired by the beauty of my surroundings, and reminders of our fragile balance with nature, I created “Preening”. I have been experimenting with combining representational and abstract qualities as well as combining different heights, textures and varying reflective qualities of the glass and stone I incorporate into my recent mosaic work. The patterns in the feathers of “Preening” reflect this recent focus. By precisely cutting the glass pieces to fit perfectly and eliminating grout between the glass, I enhance the flow of colors and a sense of depth in the work. When seen in person, this mosaic will change colors as the light fluctuates throughout the day. Often evoking strong emotions, my mosaics have been described as having an ethereal and painterly quality.
