Sunset Sails

White and red marble, a glass rod mast and encaustic wax. This work was inspired by the billowing white sails often seen in Rockport harbor. I enjoy watching the boats race and glide past each other with their sails on a broad reach. The bas relief was done by carving foam and preparing it for mosaic by covering it in fiberglass mesh and thinset. The white marble sparkles in the sunlight. The brilliant colors of sunset and the movement of the wind are captured by the encaustic wax.
